How to read in an easy and correct way:


You can read it as ‘b over a’ this is acceptable.

[latex]{\color[rgb]{1.0, 1.0, 1.0}\boldsymbol a}^{\color[rgb]{1.0, 1.0, 1.0}\mathbf b}[/latex]
a Base
b Exponent/ Power

How to read in an easy and correct way:


You can read it as ‘a to bth power’ this is acceptable.

*Commonly use: If power is 2, such as [latex]x^2[/latex]

You can read it as ‘[latex]x[/latex] square’.

DO NOT read it as ‘ [latex]x[/latex] two’!!!

Variable: unknow value, it often represented by letters, such as [latex]x, y, z[/latex].

Domain: All possible input values of a function. In college algebra, normally represent all possible [latex]x[/latex] values.
